Advancements in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology: Frascold’s Role in the Battle Against Climate Change

Air conditioning and refrigeration technologies are becoming crucial elements in global efforts to combat climate change. As temperatures rise and populations grow, there is an expected exponential growth in the demand for Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVACR) systems. Recent studies show a significant increase in demand for air conditioning solutions.

Recognizing the urgency of reducing the carbon footprint of the entire sector, industry leaders are strengthening their efforts to comply with demanding European and global regulations. These regulations mandate a drastic reduction in the use of Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) and encourage the adoption of systems that use refrigerants with low Global Warming Potential (GWP). Marco Perri, R&D and Technical Support Manager at Frascold, emphasizes this transformative shift: “Frascold is at the forefront of this transformation, with significant investments in research and development and the improvement of laboratory capabilities. Our goal is to introduce new generations of compressors and rigorously test existing ones, using alternative refrigerants (e.g., R290 and CO2 (R744))—whether natural or Hydrofluoroolefin (HFO). Our commitments are directed towards meeting the growing demand for sustainable, safe, and high-performance solutions.”

Frascold’s Laboratory: A Hub of Innovation

As part of their strategic investment plan, Frascold has expanded its advanced laboratory located at the production site in the province of Milan. Among notable additions is a specialized testing system for propane, equipped with an upgraded calorimeter and a robust endurance system for CO2 (R744). These new systems complement existing test benches, collectively transforming the testing space into an authentic center of excellence. With the assistance of experts at Frascold, the laboratory ensures maximum quality and reliability for both verifying existing products and testing innovative new compressor versions.

In the pursuit of sustainability, Frascold’s commitment to developing environmentally friendly solutions is evident. The company’s investment in advanced testing infrastructure reflects its dedication to meeting the evolving needs of the HVACR industry while concurrently aligning with global initiatives to create a more environmentally conscious future.
