Frascold, a renowned company in the field of refrigeration technology, has recently introduced its new series of compressors in ATEX design. These compressors are specifically designed for use in explosion-prone environments, positioning them at the forefront of safety-focused cooling solutions.

What is ATEX?

ATEX (“Atmosphères Explosibles”) is a European directive regulating the requirements for equipment and protective systems used in explosive atmospheres. Compressors in ATEX design must meet stringent standards for safety and resistance to potential ignition sources such as electrical sparks, hot surfaces, or mechanical friction.

Key Features of the New Frascold Compressors

  1. Highest Safety Standards Frascold compressors in ATEX design are tailored for the most demanding industrial environments. Built-in safety mechanisms ensure minimal risk of ignition even in critical conditions.
  2. Energy Efficiency The series employs state-of-the-art technology to optimize energy consumption, resulting in lower operating costs and a reduced carbon footprint.
  3. Usage Flexibility These compressors are available in various sizes and configurations, allowing adaptation to different types of cooling systems, including those using environmentally friendly refrigerants.
  4. Ease of Maintenance Modular design and accessibility to critical components facilitate quick and efficient maintenance, reducing downtime and enhancing system reliability.
  5. New Labels and Capacities The new ATEX compressor series offers a wide range of models with capacities from 5 m³/h to 80 m³/h. The compressors are available in HT (High Temperature) versions, enabling operation at higher temperatures and providing greater adaptability for specific industrial needs.
  6. Additional Innovations Frascold’s new ATEX series includes enhanced technologies to reduce vibration and noise, contributing to a better working environment. Advanced monitoring systems allow real-time performance tracking, increasing efficiency and reducing the need for extensive maintenance.
  7. Extended Operating Features Currently designed for use with propane, the new models can also be used with butane and isobutane and offer higher operating temperatures: up to 135°C with butane, 115°C with isobutane, and 85°C with propane. The new compressors also offer greater modulation, operating down to 25% of maximum capacity.

The ATEX-HT compressor series comes in four sizes – S, V, Z and W – each with specific volumetric displacement values and motor power. The most compact S model has four pistons, with volumetric displacement values ranging from 33m³/h to 56m³/h in sizes from 5-15kW. The V models are available in four models up to 93m³/h and 24kW. The six-piston Z models offer up to 126 m³/h and 30 kW. Finally, the W models feature eight pistons, with maximum values of 206m³/h and 52kW.

Permanent magnets motors are available as an option, providing a 6% increase in efficiency. Reinforced valve plates allow for pressure lifts over 30bar, while reinforced pistons with anti-friction coatings reduce wear and ensure a smoother start-up.

Applications

Frascold compressors in ATEX design are ideal for:

  • Oil and gas industries
  • Chemical processing
  • Pharmaceutical manufacturing
  • Refrigeration systems in hazardous substance storage

With the new compressors in ATEX design, Frascold reaffirms its commitment to innovation, safety, and efficiency. These compressors not only ensure the highest level of protection but also contribute to the sustainable development of industrial processes.
